Composer Gary Owen Haberman has been commissioned to create an original composition for Chorus and Orchestra to be premiered at the "In Memory of 6 Million" concert. The text for this piece is taken from the traditional "Mourner's Kaddish," a prayer for the dead found in standard Jewish liturgy. It will feature a 100 piece chorus accompanied by full orchestra and will be the culminating feature of the concert.
Composer, Arranger, producer, and performer Gary Haberman is a graduate of Manhattan School Of Music with degrees in composition. He is active as a pianist/synthesist composer, arranger, performer, and producer in a variety of musical genres with an emphasis on contemporary orchestral music as well as pop and jazz. His film and video composing and producing credits include 2 NBC movie specials, several independent movie projects, as well as a multitude of mini documentaries, animated features, and music videos. As an accomplished pianist and national acclaimed synthesist he has performed with Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, Vic Damone, Dihann Caroll, and Sammy Davis Jr. He has appeared with Jon Hendricks in an educational music video for Silver Burdett & Ginn publishing. He was the founder and principal conductor of the Spirit of America Symphony Orchestra which performed in the NY NJ metropolitan area, as well as the music director and principal arranger for Uncommon Chord, a a 10 member vocal jazz ensemble. His latest compositions include 61 original compositions for large jazz ensemble, “Concerto for Cello and Piano” for David Finckel ad Wu Han, and “Concerto for Oboe, Harp, and String Orchestra” for H. David Meyers He also released a new CD, Cornucopia with jazz vocalist Patti Dunham in a unique jazz duo format. Gary was a 2017 finalist in the 4th Annual European Big Band Composer Competition in Copenhagen, Denmark.
